Delhi Capitals (DC) reached their maiden IPL final on Sunday beating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 17 runs. The victory was orchestrated by a fine innings of 78 by southpaw Shikhar Dhawan and a quick-fire 42 by Shimron Hetmyer with Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ (Man-of-the-Match) returning with figures of 3-26 and scoring a brisk 38.

Winning the toss, SRH captain David Warner chose to bowl first. Picking up from where he left in the last match, Shikhar Dhawan played another delightful innings of 78 off just 50 deliveries. In a surprise move, Stoinis opened with Dhawan and made a brisk 38 and was particularly severe on Jason Holder’s bowling. In the powerplay, DC reached scored 65. Another important contribution for DC came from the West Indian Shimron Hetmeyer, who scored a blazing 42. SRH bowling was really not up to the mark in the match, with Holder going for 50 runs in his allotted four overs. Rashid Khan and Sandeep Sharma, with one wicket each did put up a good show giving away only 26 and 30 runs, respectively but their efforts could not stop DC from reaching a commanding total of 189 in 20 overs.

SRH lost Captain Warner early on in the chase; Kagiso Rabada getting him with a peach of a delivery. Kane Williamson (67) again showed why he is a class act; he almost took SRH home, but apart from Abdul Sammad (33) and Manish Pandey (21), no other batsman was able to support him and finally, they fell 17 runs short from the target. For DC, the pick of the bowlers were Kagiso Rabada, who finished with 4 wickets and Stoinis, who showed his all-round performance in the match, picking up 3 crucial wickets at the top.

The final match between defending champions Mumbai Indians and the first-timers Delhi Capitals will be held at Dubai International Stadium on 10th November 2020.
