On 16 October, the National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the results of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2020, in which more than 14.37 lakh candidates had appeared to get admissions into top medical colleges of the country. This year, the All India Rank (AIR) 1 has been secured by Soyab Aftab of Rourkela, Odisha, who has scored a perfect 720/720.
The AIR 2 has been secured by Delhi’s Akanksha Singh, who too has scored 720/720, but was placed second on the list as per NEET’s tie-breaker policy. The score of 720/720 secured by both the candidates is a NEET record; this is the first time that anyone has achieved this feat.
A visibly happy, 18-year old Soyab said that he was not expecting to top the NEET exam, though he knew that he had done really well. Despite financial hardships, Soyab with his sheer grit, perseverance and family support has achieved this success. Son to a small businessman, Soyab now aspires to pursue his studies at AIIMS New Delhi. He says, “There are no doctors in my family; now I am going to change that”. Soyab, stayed in Kota, Rajasthan for two years to prepare for the NEET exam.
