A Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker is allegedly in the Gulf of Oman under the control of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Iran’s actions are against international law and detrimental to regional security, according to a statement from the US 5th Fleet, which is stationed in Bahrain, and the oil tanker should be released right once. According to reports, the tanker was travelling from Kuwait to Houston, Texas, and its owner is a Chinese business, according to the International Maritime Organization’s shipping database.
The oil tanker crashed with an Iranian boat, injuring many crew members, according to Iranian state television. Days prior to the event, the US, UK, and EU tightened sanctions against Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps due to violations of human rights.
