In a bulletin published on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that cyclone Mocha will become a severe storm by midnight over the central Bay of Bengal. Mocha, a cyclonic storm, is now over the southeast Bay of Bengal, 510 km west-southwest of Port Blair and 1190 km south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh).
The Bay of Bengal is currently experiencing its first cyclone of the year, named Mokha, which is predicted to make landfall on Sunday near the border between Bangladesh and Myanmar.
According to IMD, the majority of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are predicted to see isolated areas of heavy to very severe rainfall over the next three days.
In addition, the state of Tripura and Mizoram are anticipated to see strong rainfall in remote areas on Saturday and Sunday, while Nagaland, Manipur, and south Assam will also experience this on Sunday.
“We have deployed eight teams, 200 rescuers on the ground, and 100 rescuers are on standby,” the NDRF stated.
