Neeraj Chopra wins the World Athletics Championships’ first gold medal for India

With a magnificent throw of 88.17 metres in the men’s javelin final on Sunday, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra made history again. He became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships.

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, the defending Commonwealth Games champion, earned silver with a throw of 87.82 metres, while Czech Jakub Vadlejch won bronze.

The performance of Neeraj Chopra was praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He wrote on Twitter, “The gifted @Neeraj_chopra1 is the epitome of perfection. His commitment, accuracy, and enthusiasm make him more than simply an athletics champion; they also elevate him to the status of a par excellence in all of sports. Congratulation on his gold medal triumph at the world athletics championships.”

Neeraj Chopra received congratulations from Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur for winning Gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. 

After renowned shooter Abhinav Bindra, Chopra is now just the second Indian to hold the Olympic and World Championship titles at the same time.
