West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that music legend Ustad Rashid Khan, who was receiving treatment for prostate cancer at a hospital in Kolkata, passed away on January 9 this afternoon in a city hospital.
After suffering a brain attack in December 2023, Khan’s health declined. He was initially admitted to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital, but subsequently had to be moved to a hospital in Kolkata.
“Aaoge Jab Tum Saajna” (from “Jab We Met”), “Allah Hi Rahem” (from “My Name Is Khan”), “Deewana Kar Raha Hai” (from “Raaz 3”), and more songs are among his well-known compositions.
He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Padma Shri in 2006. The third-highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan, was given to him in 2022.
