On the 2nd day of the second test between India and New Zealand ongoing at Mumbai, Kiwi left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel became the third bowler in the history of test cricket to scalp 10 wickets in an innings. The feat was previously achieved by India’s Anil Kumble in 1999 against Pakistan and England’s Jim Laker in 1956 against Australia. Incidentally, both these bowlers were spinners.

Earlier in the day, Mayank Agarwal (150) stitched a crucial partnership with Axar Patel (52) to take India’s score beyond 300. Wicketkeeper Wridhman Saha was the first man to go back to the pavilion this morning; Ashwin was bowled by Patel the very next delivery. Not much resistance was shown by the last two batsman, after the fall of Axar Patel’s wicket on 316. India finished with a first innings score of 325.

With the pitch assisting spinners, it would be interesting to see how Kiwis fare while they come out to bat, especially with the absence of their star player, Kane Williamson.
