As the PM and other G7 leaders impose more severe penalties against Vladimir Putin, Rishi Sunak will declare a ban on Russian diamonds entering the United Kingdom.
The prime minister and supporters used the annual G7 summit in Tokyo to redouble support for Ukraine, and the diamond ban is just one consequence among several.
Additionally, imports of copper, aluminium, and nickel with a Russian provenance would be subject to sanctions, and the $4 billion (£3.2 billion) market for diamond exports will be frozen.
Additionally, the UK has imposed sanctions on 86 more members of Putin’s military industrial complex.
