On Tuesday (9th November 2020), Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) invited applications for the positions of national selectors for West Zone, East Zone and North Zone in the senior men’s committee with November 15 being the deadline. The three outgoing selectors are Jatin Paranjape, Devang Gandhi and Sarandeep Singh, while Sunil Joshi (South Zone) and Harvinder Singh (Central Zone), who have been given their posts quite recently, will continue their services.

The criteria for sending applications for the national selector role states that for the said position, the applicant needs to have played a minimum of 30 first-class matches; however, international experience of minimum 7 Tests or a combination of 20 first-class matches and 10 ODIs will get more preference. The age cap for the national selector’s position has been kept as 60.

The responsibilities of the national selector would be to pick coaches and players for Senior India Team, India A, Challenger Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, Duleep Trophy and Rest of India (for Irani Cup). They would also be required to attend team meetings and go for extensive travelling to watch domestic and international matches. The key responsibility of the national selectors would be to select the possible teams with fairness and transparency.
