China has implemented new travel restrictions to contain the epidemic caused by the delta. The epidemic has grown to more than 500 cases in half of the country due to the government’s active containment leadership instead of relying on high vaccination rates. In the 144 hardest-hit areas across the country, public transportation and taxi services have been suspended, and Beijing’s train and subway traffic has been officially restricted. Three new cases were reported on Wednesday. Guangdong Province borders the Financial City.

On Thursday, officials reported 94 new local infections, including 32 cases of asymptomatic infections, which exacerbated the broader threat to the country since the pathogen first appeared in Wuhan at the end of 2019. In the largest country in the world, China has followed its proven methods.

Large-scale testing and targeted blocking suppressed more than 30 previous outbreaks. Although the number of cases is still too low to test whether the Chinese vaccine can successfully prevent serious diseases and deaths in the delta tribes, the government does not want to take risks.

“Vaccination is not equal to entering a safe or carrying a talisman,” said Qi Jinli, the deputy director of Beijing’s Covid-19 response task force on Wednesday. “Personal protective measures still cannot be relaxed and vaccination cannot replace containment measures. Let’s hold on until we score the ultimate victory against the outbreak.”
