FIFA Cancels Women’s Under-17 World Cup, India Retains Hosting Rights for 2022 Edition

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, FIFA has cancelled the Women’s Under-17 World Cup 2020, which was scheduled to be played in India. Initially, it was postponed till next year, but as per the latest reports, the World Cup will be now held in 2022, with India retaining its hosting rights. Speaking on this development, All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Praful Patel said that India is ready to start fresh for the 2022 edition.

Similarly, the Women’s U-20 World Cup, which was to be played in Costa Rica has been cancelled, and it will be played next in Costa Rica in 2022.

FIFA has also announced to hold the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021 in the month of February in Doha; this event was originally planned for December 2020.
