Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, was taken into custody by Rangers on Tuesday while standing outside the Islamabad High Court. In a case involving corruption, Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was brought into prison from a courthouse in Islamabad.
“Despite the notices, Imran did not show up. The National Accountability Bureau has detained him for endangering the national treasury. Rana Sanaullah, Pakistan’s interior minister, said on Twitter that they were not subjected to any violence.
Azhar Mashwani, the leader of the PTI, claimed that the Rangers had “abducted” Khan, 70, from within the court. The party, according to him, has issued an urgent demand for protests to be staged around the nation.
