Malayalam movie, Varthamanam, starring Parvathy Thiruvothu, has been rejected by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Kerala regional office for screening. Directed by Sidhartha Siva, the movie portrays Parvathy’s story at Jawaharlal Nehu University, where she has gone to do research about a freedom fighter.
The script has been written by Congress leader and scriptwriter, Aryadan Shoukath. Speaking to the media, Shoukath said, “It is set against the Delhi campus of the JNU and the student movement there. It shows how all of them come together despite political differences, and shows very secular ideas.”
He further added that “We have received a notice from the board that the film has been sent to a revising committee. No reason has been mentioned in it.”
On 27th, Censor Board Member and BJP leader, Adv V Sandeep Kumar had made a remark about the movie in his tweet saying that the movie is anti-national in nature and may disrupt peace; however, he deleted the tweet later.
