Mumbai Indians Lift IPL 2020 Trophy, Beat Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets

Defending champions and title favorites, Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 5 wickets with 8 ball to spare to lift the IPL 2020 trophy on November 10th 2020. With this victory, MI Indians have now 5 IPL titles to their name, creating a record in IPL history by lifting successive trophies in 2019 and 2020.

Winning the toss, DC elected to bat first but to their dismay, they lost 3 quick wickets – Marcus Stoinis, Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan – in the powerplay. Captain Shreyas Iyer (65) and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant (56) tried to resurrect the innings with a well-stitched partnership of 72. After Pant fell, no other batsman provided support to Iyer and DC reached a total of 156 losing 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Trent Boult with 3 wickets was the pick of the bowler for MI.

Chasing an average target, MI scored 61 in the powerplay losing only opener Quinton de Kock in the process. Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion and played a Captain’s innings of 68, with 4 sixes and 5 fours while Ishan Kishan contributed with a quick 33 to guide their team to the IPL second consecutive title. The target of 157 was achieved in the 19th over with Krunal Pandya hitting the winning runs.

The Orange Cap for this year’s went to K L Rahul for his 670 runs while the Purple Cap went to Kagiso Rabada for his 30 wickets. The Player-of-the-Match was won by Trent Boult and the Player-of-the-Tournament went to Jofra Archer. RCB’s Devdutt Padikkal was named the Emerging Player of the Tournament.
