After his gold medal triumph at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 with a best throw of 89.45 meters in the men’s javelin throw final. Arsahd Nadeem of Pakistan set a new Olympic record with a 92.97-metre throw. Pakistan won their first Olympic medal since the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona thanks to Arshad’s throw, which set an Olympic record.
Two-time world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada took up the bronze with a best of 88.54 meters, while Tokyo silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch, who had won the Diamond Trophy, placed fourth.
Neeraj Chopra said, “It was probably the day for a 90m throw. It was needed as well. I haven’t thought about it (90m throw) that much. But, it is coming to my mind now. I gave it my all. When Arshad threw 92.97m, I believed in my mind that I would be able to do it (90m) today. It didn’t happen today. Let’s see when it will happen. But the competition was very intense and exciting. Winning a medal for my country makes me happy.”
Chopra becomes the first athlete from India to win a silver medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, which helped India advance in the standings.
