Inauguration of the first Skin Bank in North India was place at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. The skin donated by the deceased can be stored in this bank and used to heal burns. After processing, the skin can be donated within six hours of death and used on burn and trauma victims.
According to Union Health Minister Dr. Mandaviya, the hospital will benefit patients and help those with severe burns and injuries live better lives. Dr. B. L. Sherwal, the Safdarjung Hospital’s medical director, called it a great accomplishment and said the facility also intended to launch a separate website for the skin bank so that people could readily use this service.
