All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Director Dr. Randeep Guleria has said that Omicron is more transmissible than Coronavirus and that Centre has wrote to all the States and the Union Territories (UTs) to prepare themselves on a war footing.
In its letter to the States and the UTs, the Centre has said “Based on current scientific evidence, the VOC Omicron is at least three times more transmissible than the Delta VOC. Besides, the Delta VOC is still present in different parts of the country. Hence, even greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making and strict and prompt containment action is required at the local and district level. The decision making at the State/UTs and district level must be very prompt and focussed.”
Till now, 213 case of Omicron has been reported in India, with the first case being reported on December 2. PM Modi will be holding a meeting on Thursday to review the situation.
Dr. Guleria advice to the people is timely vaccination and strict adherence to COVID protocols.
