All amusement parks across Afghanistan are now required to ban women from entering, under an edict from the Taliban’s morality police. Women won’t be permitted to enter theme parks, according to local media reports citing the nation’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice.
The ban, which was implemented yesterday, is the latest limitation on Afghan women’s freedom as the Taliban tightens controls on public life following its return to power in August 2021.
It was also unclear how the limitations would fit with an earlier regulation that required parks to be gender-segregated, with some days set aside for women. All public parks, including open areas, as well as public bathhouses were subject to the ordinance more broadly.
