Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, a senior member of the CPN-UML and a former deputy prime minister of Nepal, was detained here on Sunday, according to the police. He had been on the run since the court issued an arrest warrant for him two weeks ago in connection with the phoney Bhutanese refugee scam.
In the Budhanilkantha region, around 10 kilometres south of Kathmandu, Rayamajhi was detained.
According to media sources, an audio tape was made public in which Khand’s wife, Manju Khand, and Arzu Rana Deuba, the previous prime minister’s wife, were accused of taking millions of rupees from the scam’s victims.
13 persons have already been detained in connection with the incident surrounding the phoney refugees.
