Virat Kohli will step down as Indian captain of the T20I after the ICC T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates and Oman in October-November. The Indian captain took to social media to confirm the developments on Thursday.

Kohli said he had lengthy discussions with head coach Ravi Shastri and Whiteball skipper Rohit before concluding he needed to focus more on ODI and Test cricket as a batter and captain to bring the team to new levels.

“After much thought and discussion with my relatives, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the management team, I have decided to leave the position of T20 captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October, ”he said. Kohli in a long post on Instagram and Twitter.

Kohli, however, has confirmed that he will continue to join India’s T20I team as a player.

“I have also spoken to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah and President Sourav Ganguly along with all recruiters at the same time. I will continue to serve the Indian Cricket Team and the Indian Team to the best of my ability Kohli added.
