30 Indian Cities may face Water Crisis by 2050 says World Wildlife Fund

In a survey released on Monday by World Wildlife Fund (WWF), points at the alarming water crisis in India. As per the survey reports, India may face huge water crisis by 2050. The list carried out in the report suggests that around 30 Indian cities will face severe water crisis. This would happen due to parched lands that is likely to lead the biggest water crisis in the coming 30 years.

“The future of India’s environment lies in its cities. As India rapidly urbanizes, cities will be at the forefront both for India’s growth and for sustainability. For cities to break away from the current vicious loop of flooding and water scarcity, nature-based solutions like restoration of urban watersheds and wetlands could offer solutions,” said Dr Sejal Worah, Program Director, WWF India. This is our chance to re-evolve and re-imagine what the future of the cities could be.” she further added.

On the other hand, almost 50 per cent of the 100 cities mentioned on the list are in China. The study noted that while 350 million people reside in these 100 cities today, the population in areas of high-water risk could rise from 17 per cent in 2020 to 51 per cent by 2050.
