An unfortunate incident took place early this morning in Surat, when 15 laborers were crushed to death by a speeding dumper truck. As reports, 5 other are injured and hospitalised.
Rajasthan Chief Minister took to Twitter to share his condolences – “Deeply saddened to know many laborers from Banswara, Rajasthan have lost their lives after a truck ran over them as they were sleeping near the road in Surat. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for speedy recovery of those injured.”
“The truck driver lost control of the vehicle after it hit a sugarcane hanging out of the trolley coming from from the opposite direction. The truck’s front window pane shattered on impact, which blocked the driver’s vision. The truck then veered off the road and crashed into the laborers,” Surat SP Usha Pada told the news agency PTI. The driver has been detained.
PM Office on this horrific incident, tweeted “The loss of lives due to a truck accident in Surat is tragic. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. Praying that the injured recover at the earliest: PM”.
He also announced ex-gratia 2 lakh compensation to each kin of the deceased.
