Puri in
Odisha was the first city in the country to implement a tap water project. This
was announced by Prime Minister Navin Patnaik at the opening of the project yesterday.
He said that Puri now plays in the top leagues in world cities such as London,
New York and New York. Singapore’s drinking water is supplied directly from the
tap. In addition to the approximately 2 million tourists visiting the holy city
each year, the project will also benefit approximately 250,000 people in Puri.

The Tap
Drink Project prevents people from worrying about storing or filtering water
before drinking; in addition, the project will also prevent tourists from using
water bottles and dispose of about 400 tons of plastic waste from the pilgrimage
town of Puri. As part of the nine-month project, water wells were installed at
approximately 400 locations in the city

“Puri has become the first city in the country
to implement a project of this kind. It has enabled the people of Puri to
collect quality drinking water directly from the tap. Henceforth, people need
not have to store or filter drinking water. The inauguration of ‘Drink from
Tap’ project marks a new chapter. No metropolitan city in India have such
facility yet. Similar facilities are available only in world-class cities like London,
New York and Singapore,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said while inaugurating
the ‘Drink from Tap project’.
