On Sunday, PV Sindhu wrote history when she defeated Chinese player He Bing Jiao and became the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals in a solo competition. Sindhu defeated He Bing Jiao in the bronze medal matches in 21-13 and 21-15. In the semifinals on Saturday, Sindhu was defeated by the world’s No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying. Sindhu lost in the semifinals of 18-21 and 12-21.
Sindhu showed great strength, recovering from the semifinal losing to the world’s number one Tai Tzu Ying, and staged an aggressive performance at Musashino Forest Plaza on Sunday.
On Sunday, Indian PM Narendra Modi appreciated Sindhu for winning the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, calling the badminton ace PV Sindhu the pride of India. He tweeted, “We are all elated by the stellar performance by PV Sindhu. Congratulations to her on winning the Bronze at @Tokyo2020. She is India’s pride and one of our most outstanding Olympians.”
