Head of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, wife, and 11 others pass on in chopper crash in Tamil Nadu

Head of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat, spouse Madhulika Rawat and 11 others kicked the bucket in an IAF helicopter crash close to Coonoor in the Nilgris locale of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday evening. Rawat was 63.

The IAF tweeted on Wednesday evening: “With profound lament, it has now been learned that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 different people on board have kicked the bucket in the awful mishap.”

The IAF Mi-17V5 chopper left the Sulur Air Force station in Coimbatore area at 11.48am to the Defense Services Staff College in Wellington in the Nilgiris where Gen Bipin Rawat was to address the workforce and understudy officials of the staff course. The setback occurred inside the following 30 minutes. The chopper collided with a crevasse in the wilderness near a little ancestral settlement close to Kattery, around seven km away from Coonoor and ten km away from the Defense Services Staff College.
