On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched INS Surat and INS Udaygiri – two frontline warships of the Indian Naval Force – at Mazagoan Docks Limited (MDL), Mumbai. With the induction of these two powerful warships in the Indian Navy, the might of navy is certainly going to get more stronger.
Speaking on the launch of the warships, Defence Minister said, “INS Udaygiri and INS Surat are the shining examples of India’s growing indigenous capability. The warships will be among the most technologically advanced missile carriers in the world, that will cater to the present as well as future requirements. In the times to come, we will not only fulfil our own needs, but will also meet the shipbuilding requirements of the world. We will soon realise Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’.”
Both warships have been built at MDL, Mumbai and the credit for their robust design goes to the Directorate of Naval Design (DND). INS Udaygiri, named after a mountain of the same name, is a second Stealth Frigate of P17A class, while INS Surat, named after the city of the same name, is a fourth Guided Missile Destroyer of P15B class.
In his address at the launch ceremony, Defence Minister further added that these warships are the embodiment of the Central Governments goals of achieving ‘Aatmanirbharta’ and enhance India’s maritime capability.
