Every day, 30 minutes of “national interest” programming will be broadcast on TV.

The Center has approved new regulations that require networks to broadcast material of national interest and public value.

Every day, television networks will be required to air 30 minutes of public interest programming on topics of national importance, such as education and literacy promotion, agriculture and rural development, family welfare, health, and science and technology. Other topics include the welfare of women, the welfare of the underprivileged, and the preservation of the environment, cultural heritage, and national unity.

“The government will not provide any programmes to television networks for airing under the heading of “public interest content.” The networks are free to produce original programming on the subjects covered by the guidelines, “Apurva Chandra, I&B Secretary, stated.
