Mobile Internet access is not available in Punjab until Sunday

In the state of Punjab, all mobile internet services, all SMS services , and all dongle services have been suspended by the government until Sunday.

According to a Department of Home Affairs and Justice decree, some social groups are liable to harm public order by inciting violence that endangers people’s lives and property. It claims that some social groups were utilising social media to disseminate offensive content and rumours.

“All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety,” a statement issued by the Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Punjab, said.
