Birju Kullu (50) of Jagantoli village of Kutra Block in Sundergarh District, who has been missing since 20 years and was being thought to be dead, to everyone’s shock is coming back from Pakistan. Unaware of their son’s whereabouts all these years, his parents are no more. He landed up in a jail in Lahore, after he crossed the border by mistake. Recently, the Pakistani authorities released him and he reached Amritsar on 26th October.
Sundergarh SP Sagarika Nath informed to media that Birju had mental health issues since childhood and it is not clear how he reached Pakistan because he is unable to give correct details. After his return, he would be given physiatry support. He is now housed at Nayagarh Community Centre of Amritsar.
Birju’s release came to light when State Resident Commissioner at New Delhi received an email from the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Services of the Ministry of External Affairs. Accordingly, on October 29, Resident Minister sent a letter to the Sundergarh Collector requesting to facilitate the return of Birju.
