Another Day, Another Cyclonic Storm – ‘Burevi’

Another deep depression has been marked over Southwest Bay of Bengal, which is likely to intensify into Cyclonic storm, named as ‘Burevi’. On Wednesday morning, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, ‘Burevi’ is most likely to emerge into the Gulf of Mannar in the morning of 3^rd December and cross South Tamil Nadu between Kanyakumari and Pamban on 4^th December.

In a tweet IMD said, “Cyclone storm ‘Burevi’ lay cantered about 330 km East-Southeast of Trincomalee, and will cross Sri Lanka coast close to Trincomalee on 2^nd December evening or night. Then, it will emerge into Gulf of Mannar on 3^rd December, morning and cross South Tamil Nadu between Kanyakumari and Pamban on the early morning of 4^th December.

Tamil Nadu has launched emergency relief operation. People living in landslide-prone areas will be shifted to safer places while fishermen out at sea are advised to return to the coast.

“NDRF teams have reached most of the locations and ready to serve and save people in Tamil Nadu and Kerala,” Director General of NDRF tweeted.
