At the age of 25, Ash Barty, Australia’s world number one tennis player, has decided to retire from the sport. She won the Australian Open, her third Grand Slam singles title, less than two months ago.
“I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to do this… it’s hard to say,” Barty said in an emotional video shared on social media on Wednesday. I’m overjoyed and eager. I simply believe in my heart that this is the appropriate decision for me as a human.”
“I’m incredibly delighted with the fact that I’ve given everything I’ve got to this wonderful sport of tennis.” “That is my achievement,” she stated.
