Bhupendra Patel was elected as the new Chief Minister of
Gujarat on Sunday; Patel – MLA from Gatlodia; Patel (55) was unanimously
elected leader of the BJP legislative party; His name was suggested by CM Vijay
Rupani, whose resignation on Saturday surprised many.
Patel won elections for the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly in the Gatlodia
constituency, defeating congressional candidate Shashikant Patel.
Vijay Rupani (65) stepped down as prime minister on Saturday. It remains unclear
what has driven development in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown, where
elections for the 182-member National Assembly will be held next December.
Rupani (65), the fourth senior minister to retire in states run by the BJP
during the coronavirus pandemic, was sworn in as minister, his second term as
CM in December 2017.
I resigned as Minister of Gujarat, Rupani told reporters after meeting with
Governor Acharya Devvrat and submitting his resignation letter.
