On November 26, the entire nation came together to celebrate the Constitution Day of India to mark the day as a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who played a crucial role in the drafting of the Constitution. On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of the country formally adopted the framed constitution, which later came into force on 26th January 1950.
The Constitution Day was celebrated for the very first time in 2015, and is also known as National Law Day.
Celebrations started from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, with President Ram Nath Kovind leading the nation in community reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India. The programme was live telecasted on Doordarshan.
The Constitution of India was created after two years, eleven months and seventeen days of drafting; it was a significant day for a nation that had recently came out of more than a century of oppression by the British.
The Indian constitution, which is the longest one among the sovereign countries of the world, declares for all its citizens, the right to equality, justice, liberty and fraternity.
