Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has come under fire for his proposal to charge Twitter users USD 8 a month to create or maintain a verified account. Musk has since created some humorous memes to support his choice.
He provided a humorous meme in which consumers complain about having to pay for a Twitter verification tick even yet they are happy to spend $8 for a Starbucks coffee. He then published a second image of a $58 sweater.
“Put the people in charge! Blue for USD 8 a month,” he tweeted, adding that the cost is modified according to purchasing power parity for each country.
In addition to getting priority in replies, mentions, and searches—which, according to him, is crucial for thwarting spam and scams—users will also get half as many ads, the ability to post lengthy video and audio, and paywall bypass for publishers willing to collaborate with the social media company—for that price, he claimed.
