‘One Nation One Election’ committee sources anticipate holding their first official meeting today, according to news agency ANI. According to other reports, the meeting, which is anticipated to take place today, will be presided over by the former president Ram Nath Kovind at his residence in Delhi.
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre established a high-level committee under the leadership of former president Ram Nath Kovind to make recommendations on the viability of holding simultaneous elections under the “One Nation, One Election” proposal days after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced a special five-day session in Parliament.
This led to rumours that the Centre will be putting up a proposal to hold the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections concurrently.
