According to Agence France-Presse, French cinemas, museums and stadiums have begun to require tourists to provide evidence of COVID vaccination or negative tests because the country has suffered the fourth wave of infections and has implemented a controversial vaccination passport system.

Before the launch of restaurants, cafes and shopping malls in August, any event or venue with more than 50 people requires a health pass.

Prime Minister Jean Castex defended the policy, stating that almost all new infections occurred in unvaccinated people.

The number of new infections rose to 21,000 within 24 hours on Wednesday, the highest level since the beginning of May.

“We are in the fourth wave,” Kasteks told TF1 TV, adding that the goal of the Health Pass is to avoid the fourth national lockdown.

The Minister of Health Olivier Veran criticized the refusal of vaccination and accused the government of violating his freedom of choice.

“Freedom is not about tax evasion, nor is it about driving on the highway, or smoking in a restaurant, or refusing to be vaccinated. It is as protective for me as everyone else,” he told parliament.
