India thumped New Zealand by 372 runs in the Mumbai test match, winning the two match series 1-0. Even though, the Kiwis failed to show intent with the bat in both innings, the test match will be remembered for Ajaz Patel’s stellar show with the ball, who picked up 14 wickets in all including a 10-fer in the 1st innings. Mayank Agarwal won the Player of the Match award while Ravi Ashwin won the Player of the Series Award.
Today morning, resuming at 140 for 5, New Zealand showed little resistance against the spin trio of Ravi Ashwin, Axar Patel and Jayant Yadav, adding only 27 runs before folding out for 167. The only substantial contributions in the innings came from Daryl Mitchell (60) and Henry Nicholls (44).
Kiwis will now return home to host the Bangladesh team. India on the other hand would like to keep this momentum going forward into the South Africa series, which currently has been rescheduled due to the outbreak of Omicron virus.
