During the ongoing Lok Sabha session, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri R. K Singh, in a written reply apprised the fact that as of 30th November 2021, India has installed 150.54 GW of Renewable Energy capacity (including large hydro). Today, its installed renewable energy capacity is the fourth largest across the globe.

Another important data that he shared is that a total of 219817.14 million units of electricity has been generated using renewable energy sources in 2021-22 itself. Nearly most renewable energy projects in India has been undertaken by developers from private sector, who have been given contract for these projects through a transparent bidding process.

In order to protect small developers, the States/UTs have been given freedom to procure power from wind projects (less than 25MW capacity) and solar projects (less than 5 MW capacity) that do not fall under the competitive bidding process.
