India won three gold medals on the first day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championship 2024 in Tehran, Iran.
To set a new national indoor record, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time gold medalist at the Asian Games, threw the shot put to a distance of 19.72 meters on his second try.
In the women’s 1500-meter run event, Harmilan Bains, a two-time silver medallist at the Asian Games, won gold, ensuring India’s first-ever gold medal. In the end, she recorded a time of 4 minutes and 29.55 seconds.
To win gold in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Jyothi Yarraji beat both her personal and national records, clocking in at 8.12 seconds.
