Former leader of the Communist Party of India Kanhaiya Kumar joined Congress on Tuesday in the presence of Rahul Gandhi at the party’s headquarters in the nation’s capital.
Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani also spoke in favor of Congress ideology but did not officially join the party. An optimistic Congress has declared that Kanhaiya Kumar is a symbol of the struggle for free speech in the country. “His membership in Congress will delight our workers,” said top party leader and general secretary KC Venugopal.
“I join Congress because I firmly believe that if the country is to be saved, Congress will have to survive. The Congress party is like a big ship. If it survives, all the other small parties will survive,” Kanhaiya said.
