The UNESCO on Wednesday agreed legacy status to Kolkata’s Durga Puja celebration, carrying wonder to the country, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praising the move.
“Durga puja in Kolkata has quite recently been engraved on the elusive legacy list. Congrats India,” the association said in a tweet connecting a photograph of the goddess with hashtag ‘living legacy’.
PM Modi has hailed UNESCO’s choice as a “matter of incredible unparalleled delight for each Indian”.
“Durga Puja features the best of our customs and ethos. Also, Kolkata’s Durga Puja is an encounter everybody probably,” said the Prime Minister.
“Glad second for Bengal! To each #Bengali across the world, Durga Puja is significantly more than a celebration, it is a feeling that joins everybody. Furthermore now, #DurgaPuja has been added to the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. We are generally radiating with satisfaction!” CM Banerjee tweeted
