Lord Jagannath Snana Yatra begins at Puri

The renowned Snana Yatra of Lord Jagannath has started in Puri today. Snana Yatra is a stylized great shower celebration celebrated on the Purnima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha. This is the primary event in the year according to the Hindu schedule, when the gods Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshan, and Madanmohan are brought out from the Jagannath Temple (Puri) and taken in a parade to the Snana Mandap inside the sanctuary premises.

They are formally washed in 108 pots of ceremonially cleaned water and enriched for a public audience.The Skanda Purana makes reference to that King Indradyumna organized this service interestingly when the symbols of the gods were first introduced.
