The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday informed on its Twitter handle that a low pressure area has been marked over the Bay of Bengal, and is likely to intensify into depression. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and parts of Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the next few days.
This comes on the heels of the the cyclonic ‘Nivar’, which had heavy impact in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, a week back. Looking at this weather development, Tamil Nadu’s Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar said that the state government has already initiated steps for the safe return of its fishermen, who have gone deep sea fishing. Around 200 boats are carrying these fishermen.
This is the second time in a month that this region is under the threat of severe rainfall.
