The alarming rise in COVID cases, along with new cases of Omicron in Mumbai has meant imposition of Section 144 from December 30 until January 7.
On Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai issued an order regarding New Year’s celebrations or gatherings. The order states that there shall be no gatherings or celebrations in any open or closed space, including hotels, restaurants, pubs, bars, clubs and resorts, and these places will remain closed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Chaitanya S has stated in the order that “Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of Indian Penal Code 1860 in addition to the penal provision under the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and National Disaster Management Act 2005 and other legal provisions as applicable.”
Till Wednesday, Mumbai has reported 2510 new COVID cases while Omicron cases have been 84 so far.
