Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the famous Hornbill Festival of Nagaland is being celebrated sans all the spectacle starting today. The 10-day annual cultural and tourism fest of the enchanting state, for the first time in the history will happen virtually, and this time, it will only be held for 5 days. The premier festival, beginning today, marks the Nagaland statehood day.
The Hornbill Festival, which has brought global recognition to the state, is a cultural and tourism exhibition of the state’s diverse and rich ethnicity through traditional music, folk dance, indigenous cuisine, local textiles and designs and handicrafts, among other specialities of the Naga people.
However, looking at the present scenario and rising COVID cases in the country, the state government has decided to hold a virtual festival. The officials informed that the virtual celebration will feature different cultural programmes, the content of which will be sourced from government archives.
