Today is the first day of the season for renowned javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra at the Diamond League in Doha.With his victory in the Diamond League championship match in September’s grand final in Zurich, 25-year-old Chopra became the first Indian athlete to claim the title. Before that, Tokyo 2020 champion Chopra had broken his own national javelin record at the Stockholm Diamond League in June with an 89.94m throw, becoming the first Indian to win a Diamond League competition in Lausanne in August.
The Diamond League series begins with the event in Doha and concludes with the two-day Diamond League Final in Eugene, US, on September 16 and 17.
In a packed field, Neeraj will compete against the current world champion in the javelin, Anderson Peters of Grenada, the silver medalist from the Olympics in Tokyo, Jakub Vadlejch of the Czech Republic, the German champion Julian Weber, and the Trinidadian and Tobagonian Keshorn Walcott.
