Anshuman Rath, deputy director of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), located in the southeast of Bhubaneswar, said that Bhubaneswar in Odisha is becoming the first city in the country to achieve 100% COVID19 vaccination. The aspect reached a milestone.

“We had set a target to complete vaccination in a specific timeline. BMC has a record of around nine lakh people who are above 18 years of age in the city. Which includes around 31 thousand healthcare workers, 33 thousand front-line workers. 5 lakh 17 thousand people are in the age group of 18 to 44 years. 3 lakh 25 thousand people are above 45 years of age. We had set a benchmark for these categories to complete their vaccination in the specific timeline by July 31.” Anshuman Rath told news agency ANI.

“As per the report, we have already vaccinated 18 lakh 16 thousand people in the city. Only a few people were not being able to take first does due to various reasons. There is a migrating population, who is working in their office in Bhubaneswar and getting the first jab of Covaxin.” he said.

As of Sunday, TPR in 12 counties was less than 1%, and Nupada had no reported cases. The only constituency where TPR remains above 5% is Puri. Cuttack ranked second with a TPR of 3.86%. The reason for more than 5% is that the weekend closures of Puri, Bhubaneswar and Katak were not cancelled. Puri, Kurda, and Katak have reported triple-digit cases, while 16 regions have added double-digit new cases, and 10 regions have only added one.

Appreciating the cooperation of the local people, Anshuman Rath said, “On behalf of the Municipal Corporation, I thank the people of Bhubaneswar for making the Covid vaccination campaign a huge success. With the hard work of the civic body officials and the cooperation of the local people, Bhubaneswar has become the first city in the country to immunise 100 per cent of its population.”
