Hockey India (HI) president Dilip Tirkey, a former captain of the Indian hockey team and a member of the 1998 Asian Games gold-medal winning squad, was chosen by a unanimous vote today. For the first time in history, a former Olympian and athlete has been appointed head of the national body.
In his more than 15-year defence career, Tirkey, 44, has played in a record 412 international games. In Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000, and Athens in 2004, he competed for India at the Olympic Games.
