On Saturday morning, a stampede caused by a minor altercation between some young boys led to death of 12 pilgrims at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the officials, besides these deaths, more than a dozen people sustained injuries during the mishap.
Speaking on the incident, the Additional Director General of Police confirmed death of 12 pilgrims. He also said “All the injured have been taken to a hospital.” He further added that “Police and officials from the civil administration were quick to respond, and the order within the crowd was immediately restored, but by that time, the damage had been done”
Lt Governor Manoj Sinha of J&K has ordered a high-level enquiry in this case.
