On Tuesday, the Apex Court ordered a stay on the three farm laws based on the petitions filed by farmer unions questioning the constitutional validity of the laws. There has been a stalemate over a month between the Centre and the farmers, with the latter demanding repealing of the farm bills while the former holding its ground.

Besides putting a stay on the laws, the Supreme Court has also appointed a committee to examine the laws in question. Chief Justice, S A Bobde has nominated Anil Dhanwant, Ashok Gulati, Hs Mann and Pramod Kumar Joshi as part of the committee.

Speaking in the ensuing issue, the CJI said, “We cannot keep the farm laws abeyance for nothing. There must be some progress to resolve the issue over farm laws which we want to do through committee.” He further added, “All can give response to the committee, both for and against. And we will accept the committee and deal with the farm laws.”
